Low Fog
Question: Is it okay to use a fog machine in my school or theater?
Answer: You should always check with your school principal or the facility manager before using a fog or haze machine for the first time. Some schools and venues may have strict “no fog” policies due to local regulations or codes.
Question: Are there any special precautions I should take when using a fog machine?
Answer: There are a few basic things you can do to make sure your fog effect is as safe as it is impressive:
- As mentioned above, people with severe allergies or asthma may not wish to be in a room where a fog machine is being used. It’s good practice to let people know if you are planning to use a fog or haze machine during an event. A sign posted in the lobby or an announcement before the show is usually enough.
- Check with all performers to make sure that all parties involved in your production are aware there will be fog or haze on stage. Some professional singers and musicians, for example, refuse to perform in a venue where any fog or haze is being used. That’s not the sort of thing you want to discover during dress rehearsal.
- Always be aware of how much fog is being produced by your machine. Even a small fog machine can quickly fill a room and reduce visibility to zero if it’s left on for too long. Not only can this create trip hazards on stage, but your audience won’t be able to see the performers!
